Realize that the biggest problem with the Republican party is that it is no longer about personal freedom, but about trying to dictate one perfect way of life. I want less government. The Republican party turned into stricter government. This is not good.

You people abandon traditional values - give way for America to become a nation full of abortion and gay marraige, and this country will fall.
You have to have strong families, children, etc. for America to be strong.

ATTENTION BIBLE THUMPERS: The party doesn't need you. Who the heck are you going to vote for? A Democrat? Not likely. The party needs the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AMERICAN who makes up the majority of this country. So sorry, we don't need to pander to your freakly weird religous beliefs and make them planks of the platform. The party lost Fairfax County and thus Virginia by pandering to you.

want the government to function in the manner envisioned by our Founders, and expressed in the Constitution. I believe that, in itself, is a worthy goal.

Republicans speak of "limited government," we're talking about the federal government. Most of us haven't even considered how the states should limit themselves beyond that. So, your vision of a true conservative desire to be left completely alone is at least somewhat incorrect. We ALL want the federal government to leave us alone. The states may be a different story in some instances. I simply

themselves. That is constitutional. The states, however, are as free as their own constitutions make them to govern as big as you like. The federal Constitution does not limit state power, except for those few things which are granted to the Fed. Only the constitution of the individual state puts limits on its power, legally, beyond the very few limits of the federal Constitution. When most

alaskaliberal, you have a slightly mixed up view of our system of government. You assume that small government is the aim of every conservative. You would be mostly correct, on the federal level, although, at the current size of the U.S., small would be a relative term. I could, and should, be much smaller. However, the result would be that the Fed would get out of the states' way to govern

the lives of the electorate.
Stop being so divisive towards vast swaths of the electorate.
Everyone wants a better future for themselves and their children. If people don't believe that you can lead them to that better future, your party will never rise from the ashes of the last two national elections.

If the Republican party is to become the third party, which will be the second?

marriage or other things which the state really ought not concern itself. If you don't want the Republican party to fall into disarray and become little more than a strong third party, you must rebrand yourselves and make a concerted and sincere return to conservative ideals - conservative spending and conservative intrusion into society. If you want to win elections, stop trying to legislate...

to have fallen by the wayside. Alaska is still heavily Republican, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. However, as far as the rest of the country goes, I believe libertarian ideals and the idea of small government resonate greatly with most people, and the Rep party has either abandoned these views, or has had them bastardized by those who would rather contest elections over gay...

Alaska is one of the most libertarian states in the Union. On the whole, we just want the government to get the hell out of our way, and let us live our lives as we see fit. The Republican party used to be the embodiment of this ideal, but the 'social conservatives' appear to have hijacked the party, and now the libertarian ideals which were once so closely associated with Republicans seem...

It's not such a great thing to be the party of Lincoln. Read the Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution. It changed my life. It has completely opened my eyes to what this Republic was meant to be and how it so totally is not. Lincoln was one of the worst Constitution manglers/tramplers. We do need to be inclusive, but not with the reasoning of the originator of this idea.

How can people be more loyal to a Party than they are to their country? I want the GOP to give me an oath that they'll defend true conservative values and our Constitution. My loyalty is to my principles. Give me someone worth voting for and I'll campaign & donate. Someone not willing to stand up for what they believe in has no business voting at all. Blind loyalty is willing servitude.

We need a serious discussion about inclusion. After all we are the party of Lincoln. We have to include and I mean include all races, colors, and creeds. We must care and nurture all of Republican brothers and sisters whoever they are. We should be innovative. Maybe a national townhall meeting. We need to develop new talent within all are Party.

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism." - Ronald Reagan. If your not going to listen to reason listen to him.

Republicans have been in denial for years about the actions that define their party. Example: Rob Taylor said,
"Cruise-I agree but remember Reagan wasn't afraid to to take military actions, covert and otherwise, to weaken our enemies before they had a chance to hit us. "
Reagan's covert military actions included supplying Iranian fundamentalist with arms -- craven appeasement and treason.

Want to know why the Republican's are perceived as being non-inclusive? Go watch some of those Palin rallies. If you're a far-right, gun-loving, pseudo-Christian, with an "America, right or wrong!" bumper sticker then you don't belong.
To many of us independents that's what Republican means.

And keeping people from receiving tax benefits that other people get is giving a group special rights. The rhetoric of those against gay rights is that we are demanding "special rights" and yet you are defending giving special rights to straight couples?

And there you go with your catch phrase again of "traditional" marriage. And again I remind you that your definition of marriage is not traditional. Or how much did you pay your wife's family when you purchased her? As for grocery stores aren't government, they still follow the laws, but it is worse for the government to disenfranchise its people that a store its customers.

I would really love to see the Republican party break away from the evangelical right, and move more to a conservative constitutionalist party A Conservative Libertarian if you will
