End the war on drugs.
Conservatives are about FREEDOM. It's your body and you should be allowed to put whatever you want into it so long as you are not hurting others. If we change from the police state to the freedom state we will shake the political scene to its foundations. For 150 years the country did just fine... more

While we're banning earthly substabces that our overlords deem harmful to us, we need to ban shit. That's right folks, we need to ban it and do away with it once and for all. A phenomenom is growing where young teens are taking their shit and putting it in a bucket, letting the gasses seep up into a balloon for them to inhale. Anyone caught handling shit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent

As a medical marijuana user and registered Republican in CA, I'm sick of the hypocrisy shown by those who support plenty of other vices worse than weed.
I am a married, disabled adult... not a 15 year old. If my wife has no issue with it, neither should you! Pot should be legal for PRIVATE use in one's own home. Just because I smoke does not make me a second class citizen. End the War on Weed!

@ drillered - I can't believe you aren't aware that looking at it as a health problem, instead of a criminal problem, fixes this problem. Why do you thing there is a large group of police officers who want to end the war on drugs called Law Enforcement Against Prohibition? We need to help these people, not put them in prison. This is not a slave nation!

Amen to this point. I've already voted for others, but clearly this is important. We don't need police to monitor our private behavior and declare which plants and chemicals are illegal. Unless I'm making mustard gas, culturing anthrax, or centrifuging uranium in my basement, it should be absolutely no business of the government what I do with my free time and private enterprise.

...effectively, most of Europe, have lower uses of illegal drugs than we do; and social problems associated with drug use--like robberies, murders, large amounts of illegal capital going into criminal enterprises--are practically nonexistent. We must pay attention to reality. People will use drugs. If the market is allowed to legally take care of drug users most problems disappear.

Kristin V, Drillered & the few others here who do not see the fundamental logic of returning to drug freedom: It is easy to confuse the effects of drugs with the effects of the drug war. Problems associated with illegal drug use are due to government interference in the right of the individual to determine his/her own life course. Societies which have relegalized, like Holland and (cont.)...

Apparently you have not looked aroud and seen what the drugs are doing to the youth of America. Whole generations of young people have had their lives ruined before they were even old enough to vote because of drugs.

Zonboni....those "studies" only report the cases where cancer was eradicated...not the other people who smoked weed and still died from cancer. You have to do a little more research other than the "pro-weed" campaign studies. Educate yourself.

You "drug-supporters" are out of your mind!! I'm a nurse and have seen many disturbing addictive patients and behaviors. You have to look at the big picture, not just the fact that you want to be able to legally get high. Be realistic, you can't "trust" society if you enable them to legally be high on drugs. By the way, weed is an addictive habit...don't be in denial!

kyzr - We already have a drug crazed society - what I and other conservatives are saying is the 36 year old war on drugs has been a failure on all fronts, and we need to step back and analize the failure - and potentially deal with this problem as a medical issue and not a legal issue. selling this to the dems would just make them look like the party that can deal with problems - we can do better
kyzr
NO WAY! After marijuana comes other drugs. Voters will never support a drug crazed society. We do not want to turn the US into a pot house, then a crack house, then a heroin house. It never stops. It always turns into the next stronger high. We don't want our kids addicted, sell your crap to the dems.

We MUST legalize marijuana. The war on drugs is an utter failure...it is truly a saddening site to that even in the 21st century, this plant is illegal. Legalize it and tax it, it is MUCH less harmful than tobacco products as well as alcoholic beverages. It makes absolutely no sense that there exists criminal penalties for the possession and consumption of marijuana.

829,000 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED FOR POT LAST YEAR...
MORE THAN ALL RAPIST, MURDERERS, VIOLENT ASSAULTS COMBINED...
POT IS MEDICINE GIVEN BY GOD.....PROHIBITIONIST ARE MURDERERS AND
EVIL...
JERIMIAH.. "YOU HAVE NOT BROUGHT ME ANY CANNBIS BUT HAVE WEARIED ME WITH YOUR SINS AND OFFENSES." POT MENTIONED AS GOOD 5 TIMES SPECIFICALLY IN THE BIBLE..
IT IS THE CHRISTIANS WHO ARE HYPOCRITS
Zonboni
Amen....
Fact are Marijuana CURES CANCER...REGROWS NUERONS..CURES DIABETES...
MUCH MORE. LETFREEDOMGROW.COM / STUDIES
THOSE old soon to be DEAD republicans who won't vote Republican because they decide to allow FREEDOM in the RELIGIOUS DRUG WAR (war against paganism by radical christians) Sharia LAWS!!)
I HAVE VOTED REPUBLICAN SINCE 1984...
NEVER AGAIN AS LONG AS THEY SUPPORT DRUG WAR.

Juan, this is why you fail. You equate a principled position on the freedom over ones own body to simply be a drug lust. How can you defend prohibition of any drug and still defend freedom? You can't simultaneously defend freedom AND the drug war. To do so is simply legislating your preferences onto others. At which point you become just another politician. At least your name is accurate.
JamesD
Juan, This is why you fail. You are arrogantly stating that to defend freedom of consumption is the same as being a paranoid pothead. You cannot inspire anyone with an inconsistent philosophy. The GOP wants are input, this is it. You cannot simultaneously defend freedom AND drug prohibition. If you do, you are just legislating your personal preferences onto others. Why would this be good?
JuanMcAmnesty
@libertarian4life: You're currently experiencing the side effect known as "paranoia." Unfortunately, THC remains in your system for a very long time, so you're just gonna have to ride this one out.
@Cruise: Thanks for your clear-headed thinking.
Cruise
What about my ideas Juan McAmnesty? Do you believe Alcohol Prohibition was a successful and worthy government initiative? Do you believe the War on Drugs that has been waged for the past 36 years has been successful?
Cruise
libertarian4life, please engage in civil discourse rather than name calling and educate instead of ridicule - we are all on the same team here. Heres something i think we can agree on Juan McAmnesty - Our border needs to be physically secured, and doing so will stop the flow of drugs from points south.
Moonsavior
Let it begin with the decriminalization of Marijuana and the legalization of Hemp.
