End the war on drugs.

Conservatives are about FREEDOM. It's your body and you should be allowed to put whatever you want into it so long as you are not hurting others. If we change from the police state to the freedom state we will shake the political scene to its foundations. For 150 years the country did just fine... more

What happened to personal responsibility and informed risk? We all went through DARE as children at the federal government's expense, we should all be allowed to make the choice whether or not to use drugs. Think of how nice it would be to have police forces focused on real crimes.

JuanMcAmesty, you're an idiot. Your ignorance is astounding, Maybe you can enlighten those of us who value liberty of the virtues of kidnapping drug users and gamblers and throwing them in cold jail cells. Go ahead, defend this barbarism.

@ LostRepublicn - abortion is about the life of the unborn. The baby does not chose to die. Government's job is to protect life, liberty, and property. In America, we shouldn't put people in jail for drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, being fat, or using drugs. A government cannot protect a person from himself. This is nonsense.

  4. Wow, these thoughts were actually semi-coherent. I applaud your efforts. Your ideas, on the other hand...

  5. The war on drugs isnt a war on drugs, its a war on Americans - I have family that has been destoyed by drugs, and the war perpetrated on them - There are better ways to help these people who are our brothers, sisters, and fellow citizens than locking them up and taking their property. Im not in favor of legalization, but I am in favor of decriminalization. Alcohol prohibition didnt work either.

  6. You want individuals to maintain control over their body, yet you oppose abortion...... Yeah that is going to fly really well.

  7. I'm very much in favor of completely legalizing marijuana. As for other drugs, eh, I remain unconvinced.

Amen, Amen, AMEN! On one hand the Republican party tries to protect us from dried plants (see DEA raids, Ascroft v. Raiche), while on the other hand Bush restarts tobacco subsidies to the tune of $500,000,000. Absolute insanity!

Tobacco kills 1,000,000 people per year, and growers get cash. marijuana kills no one and growers get jail. That is the essence of GOP governance!

  9. Are you kidding? "WE SHOULD TRUST THE INDIVIDUAL NOT THE POLICE TO GOVERN BEHAVIOR?" I'm sorry but if that individual's judgement is hindered by being under the influence, I want my local police to keep them off the roads, out of my home, away from my children, etc.

We need to support smaller government. The prisons are filled with people of "victimless crimes." This is wrong! If you want to reach out to minorities, this is also the way because African Americans are subject to racism in this "war on drugs."

  11. Why don't we outlaw booze? Let's throw everyone in jail that drinks because I say that booze is bad for you and I should be able to run everyone's life because, of course, I know better.

Marijuana is not an addictive drug. We must be scientifically and morally honest. People should not be jailed for harming their own bodies. It's not illegal to be fat! Why? Because this is supposed to be the Land of The Free. We should work with groups like Law Enforcement Against Prohibition.

Kemp is correct on this one. Our current anti-drug stance makes us look like a statist caricature, when we're supposed to be about freedom. Imprisoning people for victimless crimes is a violation of their natural rights, and also dilutes the shame that should surround real crime (theft, murder, etc). This kind of shift isn't difficult. Bob Barr was once a drug czar after all.

The drug war HURTS the country and is unconstitutional. Legislation on this issue should be left to the states, as any constitutional republican should know.

  15. You honestly think you will attract older voters who see pot smoking youngsters stealing their social security check? This is what is wrong with the Libertarian movement, this and abortion. Get over it, this may come, but not until all the baby boomers die off and this new generation is the S.S.I. receivers. So we don't make it a huge priority, but don't legalize and alienate our ONLY solid votes!

Amen, this is among the biggest of big beauracracies! The other big ones like the DOD and the providers of middle class transfer payments will not be touched a self-absorbed GOP, maybe with this one it will be different!
