How is it possible that the top vote-getting idea on this site right now -- by almost 300 votes -- is to embrace Ron Paul? Either Paul's legion of online supporters are trying to fill what they perceive as a vacuum in the GOP, or we're in more trouble than I thought. Hillary Clinton is not sitting around trying to figure out how to be more like Dennis Kuchinich. Paul and his supporters are to be commended for their impressive online presence, but Paul is not a Republican, and his ideas are not the future of the GOP. This site is littered with libertarian suggestions from people who are obviously Paul supporters trying to remake the Party in his image. I respect their opinions and their passion, but they are not the future of the GOP. Let's talk more about domestic policy, netroots, and fund raising around here, and less about bringing fringe candidates into the fold.

It is hard not to be excited about individual liberty and to spread the message as far as you can. When was the last time the Republican party had a message that people could feel passionate about? I don't see anyone on here excited about bombing arab civilians, tapping phone lines, and holding prisoners indefinitely. Those are the things that have defined the RP and it is passed time for a change

@Lancevw
Agreed, that is why I became a Republican in '96 and now the neocons is being successful in blinding the party regulars and destroying the party. You can see that we are losing elections. The Incumbent Protection Act did save some but unless the party change back to its core beliefs then they will not be relevant in the future.
TheDisco
Ah, this initial posting is exactly the kind of logic that has left the GOP without a voice and without a course in contemporary America, and the "old man guard" will probably stick to it until the final nail in the coffin.
Lancevw
The Republican party has lost it's ways and all we are suggesting is we go back to it. We know the Republican party is in trouble so why not go back to what was working? Republicans have been elected to end wars, lower taxes, and create smaller federal government. In the last couple decades we have done the reverse of that. America needs more personal freedom like what our founding fathers wanted.

You seem to forget that what the frontpage of this website is asking for is exactly what happened with Ron Paul's campaign. If you want to dismiss his supporters, then you're losing out on an active base that is continuing to grow through the Campaign for Liberty. You're also missing out on 1,000,000+ votes that were cast for Paul in the primaries. Yes, not a majority, but a lot.
cbeadel
The Ron Paul campaign managed to do what the frontpage of this website aims to do. It was his message that mobilized over a million people to vote for him in the primaries and hundreds of thousands to campaign on a grassroots level. If you don't think this is the right direction, then you're throwing away 1,000,000+ and counting votes.

"Paul is not a Republican" ? WHAT ? correction Paul is not a neo-con, which is not a real Republican. Neo-Cons have more in common and can be traced to Trotsky than they do with Conservatism. Paul supported Reagan when all the other Republicans were supporting Ford, don't forget it.
Nick
In other words, you want the GOP to continue to be dominated by psuedo-conservative neocon rule. No thanks; I'll pass. Ron Paul is the way to go and should be made minority leader.
Sovereignty
I think alienating a large group of people is exactly what this site is trying to prevent. You mention the future of the GOP, well I think the future of the GOP is in trouble. Check the difference of the voting tally vs that in 2004, it's short and the difference is close to the annual death rate, a strong sign that the party is not growing.
Sovereignty
joeyt2k,
Since your the authority, tell us what is a Republican? You can define one according to your beliefs but I guarantee you it won't fit half of the members. Everyone is a little different and will have opposing views, if you want an example check the party platforms from different states and they will vary quite a bit.

Ron Paul and his supporters isn't trying to remake the image of the Republican Party but help return to it core belief. That's why I became a Republican in '96 and voted that way in the Reagan years. This party has lost it course and losing elections. This party might as well merge with Democrats if it continues this course.

REASON: Governor Reagan, you have been quoted in the press as saying that you’re doing a lot of speaking now on behalf of the philosophy of conservatism and libertarianism. Is there a difference between the two?
REAGAN: If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism.

ChristianVote
Who's party is this? If limited government, sound monetary policy, non-interventionist, pro-Life, Christian conservatives are not welcome in the Republican party then maybe joeyt2k is right in suggesting a new logo, one that looks more like the Democrat donkey.
noneocons
Sarah Palin as the face of the Republican party?!? You have got to be joking...
Cosmo
I guarantee that if you and your ilk "succeed" in excluding Ron Paul Republicans from the party's future, the party has no future. Sarah Palin further narrowed the GOP base, likely cost McCain votes (not that he would have won anyway) and she's unpacking her bags in the most desolate corner of America as we speak for a good reason.
dankoba
I'd rather not have Ron Paul or Sarah Palin as the face of the Republican Party. Me? I'll take Mark Kirk or Bobby Jindal, please.
hyperthreat
AGREED, I RATHER HAVE SARAH PALIN AS THE FACE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY THAN RON PAUL! SHE REPRESENTS WHAT MOST CONSERVATIVE WANT. SHE DRAWS HUGE CROWDS FOR A REASON! EVERYBODY IN THE CONSERVATIVE BASE LOVES HER!
