Reach youth via pop-culture and entertainment media.

For too long the left has been seen as the "cool" party for the youth. It's time we fight back by embracing pop-culture by outreaching and creating our own entertainment media avenues such as entertainment oriented blogs, broadcasting, reporting, and parties.

To reach youth, we need to... more

  1. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I SUGGESTED! Young people are so impressionable. We need celeb spokespeople (like how Dems have P Ditty) to show young people that it's OKAY and it's COOL to be Republican. We need to reach people while they're young, before their mind is made up. The party will not survive without doing this.

  2. Oh, and here's a hint: Everyone complains that Colbert and Stewart are "left leaning" but really they are social critics. Now that the dems are in power, they'll be the ones making mistakes, so figure out what Colbert and Stewart make fun of the most and LOOK INTO IT. That's what the country needs, a republican party that checks majority power, NOT a party that clings to outdated dogma.

  3. It's fine to try and "reach out to the youth" but you still don't know what you are reaching out with. You need to pink slip your social theorists like Kristol, Limbaugh and everyone else who repeats the same slogans that have been proven as wrong as 1984 double speak. Stop being absurd and come up with a new IDEA.

  4. Many of the 20 somethings get much of what they think is news from the Leftist Jon Stewart. Somehow, someway the right must push back with a right of center satire counterpart to the Daily Show. That said, this show will have no influence if it's be seen as and RNC house organ.

I think all we need is a platform to display our own views of pop-culture and start a popular uprising that attracts younger and more moderate non-politically active kids and young adults. We need something like Rolling Stone, Daily Kos, Steward, etc.

Hence is why we are starting www.parcbench.com

  6. the problem is that conservatives don't have enough talent to go into pop-culture and the media. Smart people vote democrat.

  8. Um, you can't make a conservative party "cool". Cool is sex and drugs and music, all things that our party is against.

  9. If I could vote -10 for this I would. The "youth" were for Ron Paul and the GOP blew it and continues to blow it. Paul was not popular because he's "cool" he's popular because he was not a typical "war, war, war" Republican and really does stand for smaller federal government. Learn from him or lose in 2010 just like you lost in 2006 and 2008.

  10. agree. excellent.

I heard young people like the 'rap' music. Let's have some of that.

  12. We have the BIG STARS: Bo Derek, Tom Selleck, Lee Greenwood and Hank Williiams Jr. Who Needs MTV?

Stewart and Colbert are funny guys, and smart too, but they're left-leaning. More importantly, Comedy Central isn't going to become a worthless political tool. I have to agree though, the party should find some way to reach out to young people.

  14. I've seen a couple comments I agree with. It's more than just reaching out to the youth, you need a message that the youth agrees with. You can't just force them to like a certain message. I tend to be more of a libertarian-leaning conservative. I'm fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. I consider social conservatives to be out of touch with reality...this isn't the '50's!

  15. Ron Paul gained the support of the youth simply by calling for personal liberty, ending the Fed, ending the war, a free market, staying out of foreign alliances, no nation building, etc. It's amazing the youth voted for the man who professed the teachings of our Founding Fathers. They voted for the politician most in line with what they learn in history class what this country is supposed to be!

  16. I think this is confusing the medium with the message. You can "reach out" and create interactive social networking/video sharing/file sharing/pron sites until you're blue in the face (or should that be red in the face), but if the message you're peddling isn't compelling, the "youths" are going to ignore it like so much spam.

Need to embrace Facebook, MySpace and other Social Networking sites and communicate with young people using their technology. Read Grown up Digital by Don Tapscott. This book should be our bible on how to reconnect with the youth market. After all, that is what they are a new market waiting to be tapped.

  18. We also need to address the internet more. There's a Repblican YouTube idea on one of the forums. Maybe we can get Stewart (or Colbert, I like him more) to be a spoksman for the party-they're loved by everyone, so why not have them promote our ideas more?We can start by giving them some shares in the redtube idea (the GOP Youtube). This is how William Shatner started promoting priceline for free

  19. Yeah, like how they reached out with this awesome website... I mean, I can come here and post all kinds of dumb shit!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO@@@@!!!!!

    YOUNG REPUBLICANS FOR TRUCKNUTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    DON'T TREAD ON THESE NUTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Well ok that last sentence was harsh and not useful to this particular thread. I admit I'm very frustrated that young people are often encouraged to idolize entertainers rather than make their own music/art.
