This whole blog is about strategy as if we lost because we didn't run the right campaign. We lost because we ran the country into the ground economically, socially and internationally. We had 8 years to push our agenda and we pushed hard and it turned into a train wreck. Does anyone think Sarah Palin could have done a great job of executing a war in Iraq or saving New Orleans? Read these blogs. No one even cares about the mess we made. We're still trying to keep gays from getting married while the world is crumbling. We look just plain silly. Our ideas are dinosaurs and we're afraid to change. That's why we lost. We are inferior in the tech arena because we resist all change. We're inferior in the arts - like film, music, TV, because we aren't open enough to embrace creative ideas. We want to tell everyone what to do, what to think, what religion to believe, how to live their life while we claim we're for freedom. Obama talked about change and people believed he meant something new, different. McCain/Palin said change and they meant to change back to the old, old ways and a few old white people liked that. Here's the way to rebuild the party: find the most intelligent people in America and listen to their ideas without judging them and wanting them to sound just like Republicans. Stop talking about us versus them. Start thinking about people living happy, free lives. Instead of being the party that wants to tell everybody what a bad person they are and how they're going to hell or they're terrorists or unpatriotic, start being the party that sees the best in people and adds something to the conversation. Stop being so darn small-minded and start being Americans instead of just Republicans. America doesn't just need 2 parties that compete. Our country - and our world - needs a healthy dialogue with a variety of great ideas. If we start being THAT party, we'll contribute many good leaders to America and people will vote for us because we deserve their vote.

patriot123, when you are the minority party (as you will find in the next 2 years), you simply cannot win. If you go stand up to the majority, you get called a whole lot of not-nice things (partisans, whiners, "elitists" etc) and you get steamrolled anyway. If you go along to get along, you get called more not-nice things (pushovers, traitors). It cuts both ways, no matter what you do.

As are Democrats for going along with it. Does any of congress have a spine to speak up for whats the right thing to do. I can only think of a handful.

You can't blame your own lack of progress on opposition from democrats. Congress republicans rubber-stamped anything Bush/Cheney threw their way. Furthermore, we don't NEED to be in the war that we're in right now (Iraq). We are bleeding money for no good reason, costing lives and eroding our goodwill in the region. You have to face the facts that Republicans ARE responsible for a lot of this.

i guess i disagree. our financial institutions were burnt to the ground in september 2001. hard work bounced the economy back while we fought terrorists wars across the world. we were hit by a monster hurricane followed by another. we gained the majority in 2002 where democrats blocked most legislation beginning early on and that was polished off by misinformation in the media. get real!
