do a better job in Black and Latino communities
I'm a Black conservative/republican. 95% of Blacks vote Democrat and 60% of Latinos. Those stats are RIDICULOUS. There is no way America can become this multicultural and our party not have a plan.

Latinos are easier to reel in because they think theyre white anyway. :)

Sharon1225: Many latinos worked through the system and believe others should, too (like my uncle). The problem is, the system is impossible to navigate, and we haven't helped our cause by supporting an almost racist rhetoric from some of our politicians.

I am white, a life long Republican and live in Chicago (for the last 12 years). It is very disappointing and disheartening to see the lack of resolve to build relationships with diverse religious, cultural and ethnic views. An intentional effort at building authentic relationships (in my case with more whites so as to encourage them to reach out to a wider diverse network and learn) is step 1.

The very simple and plain fact of the matter is that the GOP more closely represents the interests and traditional values of ethnic minority peoples, especially Black Americans. (Notice I did not say African American!) This is a wake-up call to the party, that it can no longer not aggressively court the ethnic minority vote.

They give the the party millions of dollars and little to show for it..its wrong

we need more minorities in the party period..who runs the minority department?????????????

I voted for this one. We need to do this, but how? We had the black vote for many years. It's difficult to get the Latino vote because the ones that are here legally and can vote are sympathetic with the ones that are coming her illegally. We can't let go of our responsibility to deal with illegal immigration.

Republican message should be simple and totally embraceable by everyone: you work hard for your money, we want you to keep more of it. Family means everything to you--we want them safe, in good schools, able to afford college and a home of your own. But we won't jerryrig the system, because that leaves you worse off than before. Dems offer you free everything--your're too smart to believe it.

yes i agree. more borderjumpers. as a flagwaving conservative white male,
i love hispanics because you can fit 12 of them in a truck and theyll work for oranges. also conservative latina chicas are hot, good cooks and really subservient. but id never marry one. eww.

Hispanics are mostly catholic, hard working, family folks looking to improve their lives through their hard work. Seems to me they are a clear fit with conservative values. We want border security. But we have got to rethink immigration policy to accomodate the reality of a large group of people who only want to be part of the American dream.

I really don't know why the GOP has not reached out to the black community. Doug Wilder said advised Obama to campaign hard in VA and get every last vote out of traditionally Republican areas. We need to do the same in traditionally Democratic areas. Conservatism works every time, but so many people have not been educated in these principles.

The GOP has done a horrible job in promoting our history to Blacks and Latinos. One of the biggest reasons I am a Republican is because I know that the GOP was instrumental in the civil rights movement and helping suffragists. Why is the GOP not talking to Blacks and Latinos about this? Instead Blacks and Latinos think that the GOP is the party for the "rich white man." We need to go ol school

One thing we could do - instead of focusing only on the illegal part of immigration, turn the focus to legal immigration. The legal immigration system is so completely messed up that it is almost impossible for a Latino to come here to work legally unless they are a doctor or rich.
A radical proposal to rebuild a sane immigration system would be seen as a refreshing new change to Latinos.

Freedom... give it up, buddy. We could legalize marijuana, and crack, and crystal meth. Where does it stop? Who's to say? You?

P.S. Trolls make me angry. You won't like me when I'm angry.

sara.b. is right, of course. We must not only ask, though. We must talk with everyone. We must not campaign or share our beliefs only with people we think will like us. Learn your stuff well. Don't go out unprepared. If you're well-prepared, it will be very easy to talk with anyone about what you believe and why. When they see your sincerity, they may actually listen and begin to share with you.
