BenCook, you either don't know what libertarians believe in regarding foreign policy
OR, you don't know what "protectionism" is...
OR, you don't know what a conservative foreign policy is supposed to be.
"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. . . . The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is." ~ Ronald Reagan
There is nothing "fair" about the fair tax, and it won't decrease most people's tax burden.
A FLAT TAX is a far better idea. Set it at 10% for individuals and businesses, and watch the capital be thrown into our economy...
Oh, and capital gains has to go too.
In 2000 and 2004 the GOP largely had the support of Libertarians. This year, that support almost entirely imploded.
The libertarians cannot be ignored. Whether they are registered Republican or independent.
Family Values start in the Family. The government can't raise your kids for you. THAT needs to be the message. Nobody can raise your kids better than you can. If you want them to avoid drugs and alcohol, that is something that you need to instill in them as they grow up, rather than relying on the government to protect your kids from any dangers.
tada: I agree. We need to bring the intellectualism back to the party. We need our leaders to be more like William F. Buckley (or George Will) and less like Rush Limbaugh.
