While I totally agree some drugs should be legalized, to me the economy and the deficit are way higher priorities. The RNC should not put drugs on their platform any more than they're putting abortion and homophobia as bullet points over dealing with the real issues in America. They don't even care any more.
I agree we should end the war on drugs, but conservatives are not for freedom. That's actually one reason you should not vote for the GOP. I don't see them changing their stance, but nothing's perfect.
Wow these comments went nowhere fast. The issue for me isn't about your views on homosexuality or abortion. It's the fact that the RNC is fixated on these issues instead of the economy, diplomacy, and the Constitution. In fact, they use these issues as a crutch to explain their inexcusable behavior on everything else. the RNC is fiscally liberal, and socially fascist.
Another member posted this excellent collection of articles on Fairtax:
I'm all for tax reform, but fairtax is simply misguided at best and some of its supporters are flat out dishonest. First off, FairTax claims a tax rate of 23% but it's factually 30%, this is simply marketing spin like a box of cereal saying the presence of insects is "all natural". Not to mention 30% is also a dishonest estimate.

Thank you, this is one of the few ideas that's hit the nail on the head. Sadly, this describe Clinton's administration more than any Republican administration in five decades. Fiscal conservatives don't care about your party affiliation, and it's social extremism like religious activism and this fixation on homophobia that we're tired of. It's a distraction from the real issues of America.
This article demonstrates why FairTax is at best delusional in their accounting, and at worst flat out dishonest:
Like I said, once you deal with money grass roots always turns into unmitigated corruption. At least politicians have to safe face, these groups disband and change names at will every decade or two.
Exactly, this tax simply moves the tax around. Stop with the hot potato solutions, focus on pragmatic reform rather than "try this system" which invariably is supported by the people it benefits the most. And by the way, the fact that it's made by grass roots makes it even less trustworthy than something crafted by corrupt politicians. Stop voting yourself money.
There's nothing you can do about racists, they're a valuable demographic and they've chosen the GOP the same way many minorities choose the Dems.
People who vote rationally are the real minority, and most of them are unaffiliated. The best thing the GOP can do is stop pandering to racists, and the Dems can stop pandering to minorities. Never going to happen though.
Ron Paul has his place but his movement is overstated, and I'm a member of Campaign for Liberty. I support his stances on small government and less intervention, but he simply goes too far on too many issues. It speaks volumes that moderators will delete comments about Ron Paul's voting record on earmarks. Thank you for enforcing your political views on everyone.
Ron Paul has his place but his movement is overstated, and I'm a member of Campaign for Liberty. I support his stances on small government and less intervention, but he simply goes too far on too many issues. What's pure hypocrisy is his voting record on earmarks, and his phony explanation of them. He basically admitted he was exactly the same as the politicians he was attacking!
The GOP has never had a problem with words on small government, it's action. Under Bush they've embraced a bigger government, bigger deficit, and bigger interventionist policy than Bill Clinton.
Anyone against invading Iraq, staying in Iraq, expanding our military - they're labeled as traitors by the GOP. It says something when nine of the ten presidential candidates are unrepentant idiots.
I am NOT a Republican. I believe in small government, balanced budgets, and competence. Obviously I'm also not a Democrat, but I guess that's not the question.
I'm the growing 1/3 of America that has no party affiliation and is tired of exotic party platforms centered on homosexuality and abortion. Stick to the real issues - the economy, the war, and the federal deficit.
The Libertarian platform also does not believe in public education - education for children whose parents cannot afford it. I could care less about the parents being poor, but children are born into the family without a choice and giving them almost no chance at success on their own is as anti-Liberty as it can be.
Again, I was told I should join the Green party.
Unfortunately, the Libertarian party platform allows for slavery and indentured servitude as long as it doesn't involve the use of force. Most slavery today involves children through debt of their parents.Their parents teach these children to work as slaves for others, and they don't know better. I called the party out on this and their response was I should join the Green party. I have the email.
The problem with tax breaks is they always go disproportionately to groups of people. And they happen without spending cuts, which is simply a tax on our children! Tax breaks without spending cuts are simply new taxes.
Amen. It's sad to see that conservatives are better off voting Democrat because they're simply less crazy.
