Yes, the country didn't tear itself apart because of something called the Immigration Act of 1924. We essentially ended immigration from all nations the immigrants of which didn't have deep historical roots in the United States. That is to say we had exactly the kind of time-out we so desperately need today. Tell me one thing, why do we NEED to make legal immigration easier? Why do we need more unskilled workers?danielbrophy shared this idea ·
We have reached out to all of these groups, except gays (and rightly not). The problem isn't the lack of trying. It's the lack of a hand out. The people we REALLY need to reach out to are BLUE COLLAR WORKERS! The way to do this is to support raising tariffs, and protecting our vital manufacturing base. There are a lot more factory workers than investment bankers in this country!
NO! The problem isn't that we aren't giving away enough goodies. It's that people think we don't care about their jobs. Just big business. They may be right. Want to know what killed our party? Free trade. We let the third world steal our birthright!
We can't force states to hold only closed primaries. What we should do, however, is try to limit primaries which fall within the first thirty days of the primary season to closed primary states. That is to say, we'll let states hold all of the open primaries they want, but we won't seat delegates if any of them hold their primary within after the first primary of the year. No more McCains!
Why should the republican party embrace LIES about science? Evolution is an atheist lie for which there is no evidence. Adult stem cell research has shown itself to be a life saver, but there is no evidence whatsoever that embryonic stem cell research is useful in the least. I'm all for space exploration, but I oppose the use of tax dollars to fund it.
We ought to first erect a 2000 mile triple layer fence on the Mexican border, then decriminalize marijuana ONLY. This will make the job of the border patrol much easier, as they will need only to deal with the smuggling of hard drugs. There is a valid case to be made that these should be illegal. It is absurd, however, to spend billions to fight marijuana use, while alcohol is left alone.
Charles, I have one. Seal the Mexican border with a 2000 mile Duncan Hunter style fence, and limit legal immigration to 100,000 annually. Accept only those who speak fluent English and have job skills.
It's the kind of thinking on display from apathy that will doom the Republican Party, and indeed, America itself. It is a neo-conservative LIE that America is a propositional nation. We are not a nation built on "ideas." We WERE one people with one language, one faith and one culture. We were bonded together not but vague notions of liberty, nice as they are, but by blood, faith, and history.
The attraction of Ron Paul to young people has nothing to do with image. It has to do with the fact that Ron Paul represents what the Republican Party is supposed to be about. Disempowering the government. Our party needs to wake up to the fact that this idea has huge grass roots support. More importantly, it's the constitutional path. Figure it out, or we keep losing elections.
